frozen drops of glistening tears
27 graduated beads
of Himalayan rock crystal
strung in a necklace
cool and clear as the ice-cold mountain stream
as colorless as pure water
(which makes them every bit as beautiful as colored beads)
gleaming and simple
in contrast to the usual glaring colors of other gems
and rare
to find crystals so clear
unusual, unaffected beauty
adorning an equally pure beauty.
Whoever saw the potential in these crystals
had perfect vision .
Shaped beads crystallize
a moment in time, out of all time,
past, present and future.
When you look deeply into them
you see, clearly, Love and Sadness in Life,
inextricably entwined and in equal measure –
you cannot love without sadness
sadness is integral to love, and both are integral to Life.
The beauty of the stones never ages or fades
they’re as beautiful as the day they were carved
long ago
and will be so for long to come.
I saw them and recognized their worth
and felt it right to give them to my love –
but my love could only place around her pretty neck
a string of crystal tears.
